A calling to serve

            Your journey,              our community

The Society of Traditional Old Catholics is a growing community within the Independent Sacramental Movement. Our jurisdiction was established on the strength that all people are welcome to worship and serve God and was founded as a fraternal membership to all who cherish traditional worship and values that was handed down to us by Archbishop Arnold Harris Mathew – the first Old Catholic Bishop in Great Britain. We maintain valid apostolic succession, the same sacraments, and a mass that Traditional Old Catholics are used to. We ordain men, married or single through the minor orders to the diaconate and priesthood.

Ministry with purpose

Due to the unique nature of ministry outside of the mainstream Churches - those with established parishes and church buildings - being called to ministry in the Society of Traditional Old Catholics requires one to be creative and flexible, therefore most members have their own Oratories. This allows for a deeply personal and adaptable approach to spreading God's word and serving the community.

Anchored in tradition

What makes the path of a vocation within The Society of Traditional Old Catholics special? All our Bishops hold authentic Apostolic lines of Succession, ensuring the continuity and validity of our sacred traditions. We offer a distinctive opportunity to serve within a framework that honours the past while embracing the present.

Please note:
In the application and due diligence process, the Society will request documents such as baptismal, confirmation, and Holy Orders certificates (if applicable). Please note that although we may request ordination and Holy Order paperwork from clergy, admission into the Society does not imply an endorsement of clerical status or validity.  The Society of Traditional Old Catholics is not duty bound to give reason why an application for membership has not been successful.

Members, who have reason to doubt the validity of their Holy Orders, may petition and request the Superior General/Superiors for sub conditione ordination or consecration. Please fill out the relevant information on the contact page and a membership application will be emailed to you.
